Domain Name and Site
After registering my domain name This1That1Whatever.com and once it became available at the Internet's root name servers. I was able to proceed with setting up my site on the web server. For weeks, I have been working feverishly away at establishing the desired look & feel for my site, incorporating the Google AdSense Ads and filling my site with content. My site continues to be work-in-progress as I have not reached critical mass where I would consider it "open for business".
My website code consisting of HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript files is developed using my local WAMP server. This allows me to view my web pages from the browser but my local server is not accessible on the Internet. I uploaded these files to my shared web server host on the Internet and my site is now visible to all on the Internet.
The coding of my site is done in such a way that it does not depend on the domain name. This is achieved by the use of "relative pathnames" such as "blog/" as opposed to absolute URL references such as http://This1That1Whatever.com/blog/. The only absolute pathname that I have to use is in a CRON job script, which is configured to run autonomously once each day.
My next step was to register my site with Google Webmaster Tools and Yahoo Site Explorer which are the facilities that provide me with information on external links (backlinks) to my site, among other information and statistics. The view through those facilities reflect the search engine crawlers that find out information about the pages on my site and indexes them respectively in the Google and Yahoo search engines.
