Scribd for Document Sharing

Scribd proclaims themselves as "the largest website for social reading and publishing". Other references such as Wikipedia say "document sharing website". Scribd allows documents in various formats such as Word and PDF to be uploaded to the website where it is published in HTML format for viewing from the Web browser. Uploaded documents which are publicly shared can then be viewed as well as downloaded in formats such as Word, Text and PDF.

I first used Scribd several months ago when I was looking for sheet music for songs that I wanted to play on the piano. Since restarting my article marketing activity, I have been researching other avenues for publishing articles. This led me to find Scribd which can be used for article marketing.

Sign-up was quick and easy as there is an option to sign-up using my Facebook profile. With the Facebook integration, I discovered that I already had people following me - they are my Facebook friends. I have focused on creating content to publish on Scribd as opposed to making social connections at this point in time. I want to see if my articles are found and read. With the real-time monitoring of read statistics, I am able to see immediately which articles are attracting more attention than others.

The articles that I publish on Scribd are typically indexed by Google within a day or two. Therefore, in addition to Scribd members being able to find my articles, search engines can also bring readers to my articles at Scribd. Furthermore, I have links in my Scribd articles that point back to my web properties such as this site. After about a week into my Scribd article publishing activity, my Google Analytics metrics indicate that I am getting visitor traffic from the links in my articles published on Scribd. So far, my Google Webmaster Tools metrics have not revealed any backlinks from the articles at Scribd. Perhaps the next Google Webmaster Tools update cycle will include Scribd backlinks.
