Digital Camera

It has been a long time since I took pictures on my Canon AE-1 film camera. Same goes for analog camcorder video. Nowadays in the digital age, I take pictures with the convenience of my smartphone. As I watch the progression of technology for digital stills at exceedingly unnecessary high resolution and videos pushing into the 4K UHD realm, I finally decided it was time to jump in.

As great as photography can be, I am more interested in videography. I considered buying a fixed lens digital camcorder but the allure of interchangeable lenses led me to think otherwise. The DSLR camera has gained widespread popularity, partially propagated by camera manufacturers who wanted to extend the analog SLR cameras into the digital domain to allow users the familiarity and historical (hysterical) context. The mirror used in the SLR camera was necessary because of film. In the world of digital sensors, the mirror is totally unnecessary. I followed the relatively recent movement by the industry towards mirrorless cameras.

And why is it called a camera when the device can also take videos? I suppose "digital picture and video recording device" is a mouthful. In any case, I bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 camera which has the ability to record videos in 4K UHD resolution. Not satisfied by the quality and limited 14-42mm focal length range of the kit lens, I added the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm fixed aperture f/2.8 lens.

Here is the DMC-G7 camera taking a selfie. The camera is small size and light weight for easy carrying and use.

Here is my first 4K UHD video using the DMC-G7.
